The National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) is the governing body for the historically African-American fraternities and sororities at the College of Charleston. It is home to the NPHC sororities and fraternities currently at the College. The NPHC is also affiliated with the national governing body of all nine NPHC organizations. For more information regarding the national NPHC, visit their website at www.nphchq.org.

When & How Can I Join?

NPHC organizations do not use a recruitment process similar to the one used by the Interfraternity Council or the Panhellenic Council. NPHC organizations have open recruitment periods that are deemed by the specific organization, not by NPHC. Specific requirements vary by organization. Check out an organization's local or national website for specific intake requirements.

Also, be aware that organizations will hold informational meetings to begin an intake process. These meetings will be advertised through this Office and the organization. These meetings are the beginning of the process of joining and are required for anyone to join.

If you are interested in joining one of these chapters, you can get to know the organizations by attending their events throughout the year. These are heavily advertised through social media from the organizations and the Council.

For additional information, please contact Deronda Washington, Associate Director for Fraternity & Sorority Life at (washingtondc@cofc.edu).
