WHY JOIN A FRATERNITY?

Fraternities have existed on the College of Charleston campus since the mid-1800s and have continued to thrive ever since. Every fraternity is held to high standards, which have allowed fraternity members to rise well above the average college student. Those who chose to join a fraternity will find their college years filled with opportunities for leadership, academic improvement, personal advancement, and healthy social life. Membership in a fraternity truly adds value to the college experience that is attainable nowhere else on campus.

Recruitment Information

The Interfraternity Council (IFC) at the College of Charleston participates in structured recruitment. This is a process in which there are certain events planned and executed by the Interfraternity Council that give Potential New Members (PNMs) the opportunity to meet fraternity men in a controlled setting. These IFC-sponsored events take place at the beginning of each semester and all men interested in joining a fraternity are required to attend. After these IFC events, the individual chapters host events and invite Potential New Members at their own discretion. Structured recruitment culminates in a formal bid day that takes place in the Cistern Yard. However, fraternities may continue to give out bids throughout the semester. This process happens at the beginning of the fall and spring semesters each year.
