Leadership Awards

THe Higdon Center Leadership Awards (formerly known as SALA) are presented at the SAIL Awards Program and recognize and honor outstanding CofC students, faculty and staff that have contributed time and energy to improve our campus and community. Through their leadership and accomplishments, they have brought distinction to the College of Charleston. Students and one faculty or staff member are selected in the following areas:

Student and Student Organization Led Nominations:

Advisor of the Year: Nomination form must be submitted by organization's president.
Recognizes one faculty or staff advisor who has consistently demonstrated a commitment to student development and leadership practice while fostering such growth in students.
Criteria: College of Charleston employees who currently serve as an official advisor of an SGA-recognized student organization. 

Hall of Leaders: Inductee submissions must be made by the president of the organization. 
Recognizes leaders of particular, invited student organizations that have specific governing responsibilities. Nominees selflessly donate their time and leadership skills to the organization, make a significant contribution to the campus community and encourage and motivate others in the organization. Nominees may or may not actually hold an officer/elected or appointed leader position.
Criteria: Inductees must have given selfless time and leadership to the organization, made a significant contribution to the campus community, and encouraged and motivated others in the organization. Each eligible organization will be asked to select one individual for induction. 

 

Advisor Led Nominations:

Cistern Award: Nomination form must be submitted by the organization's advisor.
Recognizes senior students who have been motivated and engaged contributors to an SGA-recognized student organization. Nominees may or may not actually hold an officer/elected or appointed leader position. They are considered leaders because of their investment and commitment to the organization and the College community.
Criteria: Seniors (minimum of 90 hours) in good academic and disciplinary standing with the College. 

New Student Leader Award: Nomination form must be submitted by the organization's advisor. 
Recognizes first-year students of an SGA-recognized student organization who have actively contributed time and energy to learn about leadership and contribute to the College community.
Criteria: First year students (less than 30 hours or a full-time student in first year at the College) in good academic and disciplinary standing with the College. 

 

Self-selection into multi-year commitment:

Leadership Certificate Program 
Recognizes students who participated in numerous leadership programs and created their own personal Leadership Portfolio. Please see our LCP site for more information about certificate completion.
